The Advantage of Acting Early
In my practice at The Skin Lab BD, I often emphasize that the success of hair restoration depends heavily on timing. Many patients wait until significant balding has occurred before seeking professional medical help. However, when a patient catches hair thinning in its early stages, the chances of full stabilization and density recovery increase dramatically.
This case involved a 32-year-old corporate professional who came to my Khulna clinic noticing subtle recession at his temples and a slight widening at his crown. He was not severely bald, but he recognized the pattern from his family history and wanted to take control immediately before the thinning became irreversible.
Diagnosis Through Trichoscopy
Before recommending any treatment, we conducted a detailed scalp evaluation using advanced Trichoscopy. This digital magnification tool allows us to examine follicular openings, measure hair density per square centimeter, and detect early-stage follicular miniaturization.
The trichoscopic scan revealed that while density was still acceptable, a high percentage of hairs in the frontal and crown regions were shrinking in diameter. This confirmed early androgenetic alopecia. Because we caught the condition while the root systems were still viable, we recommended a structured Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) protocol combined with targeted lifestyle guidance.
The Treatment Protocol and Results
We designed a customized course of 5 PRP sessions, spaced four weeks apart, to deliver a concentrated surge of autologous growth factors directly to the miniaturizing follicles:
- Phase 1 (Sessions 1 to 2): The primary clinical objective was halting active shedding and reducing daily hair fall during washing and combing.
- Phase 2 (Sessions 3 to 4): Trichoscopic follow-up revealed a noticeable halt in miniaturization, with existing hair shafts beginning to thicken in diameter.
- Phase 3 (Session 5 and Maintenance): Overall scalp coverage improved significantly, successfully restoring the patient's frontal density and hairline framing.
Common Clinical Questions
Why is early intervention with PRP so effective?
When hair follicles first begin to shrink, they are still alive and capable of producing strong hair if given proper nutritional and growth signals. Waiting until a follicle is completely dead leaves fewer options for non-surgical recovery.
How do I know if my hair thinning is early-stage?
A professional trichoscopic examination in a clinical setting is the only way to accurately measure hair shaft diameter diversity and follicular health before visible bald spots appear.
Is maintenance required after completing a PRP course?
Yes. Because genetic hair thinning is a progressive condition, periodic maintenance sessions, typically once every 6 to 12 months, help protect your investment and maintain long-term density.
